One of the most common and interesting inventions out there on the market is the touch screen phone. Since it first burst on the scene not that long ago, it has been extremely commonplace. If cellular phones were once the province of the poseurs and the snobs, things have changed so much that when the touch screen phone made its debut around twenty years later, it became very much the property of everyone.
Of course, the touch screen phone is not the first thing that you would have come across with touch screen technology. Many of us first encountered it at the ATM, many of which use touch screen technology when you want to withdraw your money.
In fact, if we stop to think about it, the first touch screen phone to hit public consciousness was Apple’s iPhone, which was only in 2007. Since then, everyone seems to own an iPhone. The iPhone is certainly not an inconspicuous object. For example, you may wonder why, when someone sends you an email through an iPhone, you have to read a little message at the bottom telling you, “Sent from my iPhone.” After all, do we really care? What is surely most important to the recipient of the email is its content and the identity of the sender. Whether the actual medium of sending was an iPhone, a Blackberry, or a simple PC is totally irrelevant. Perhaps we should stylize all of our emails in this way. Mine, for example, would probably say, “Sent from my obsolete old wreck that is still just about working.”
However, the iPhone, or any other touch screen phone for that matter does have a lot to offer. You no longer have to bother with striking irritating little keys on tiny little keyboards that no one under the age of 40 is able to read properly. You also don’t have to worry so much about keys getting stuck or dusty and therefore being unable to work properly.
Another advantage of the touch screen phone is that it has a comparatively large screen, which makes it far easier to read and much more convenient. The downside of this is that it does drink the battery a little faster, but if you always have a charger available, that should not be too much of a problem.
The other things to look out for are the different additional features that are offered on the phone. These days, a touch screen phone, like any other kind of phone is more of an entertainment and multimedia center than a simple object for conducting conversations. You will find that many of them include media players, Internet and email facilities, cameras, and radio.
You can buy a touch screen phone manufactured by a variety of companies, both on line and in the store. These days, prices are getting lower and lower. Some of them are offered through the Internet for as low as $25, while other more sophisticated models cost as much as $300.
Much has happened in the past three years, since the first touch screen phones hit the market. You have a huge choice at your fingertips. The rest is up to you.
